Brain on Apple iOS 13.3 Psychological Recommendations

A group of former psychology students from the UIB have reviewed the recommendations given for confinement and have chosen the ones with the most scientific support. Today we will talk about insomnia during confinement.

When we suddenly change our habits and routines, it is common for sleep problems to appear. Therefore, we want to tell you about some strategies that can be useful for you to increase the quality of your sleep:

  • It is important to establish a sleep routine to rest better. Always try to go to sleep at the same time slot. Thus, the body will get used to disconnecting as if it were a clock programmed to turn off at night.
  • What you do the hours before going to bed influences our sleep. Avoid eating too much and drinking stimulating drinks. Although you should not go to bed hungry or thirsty either.
  • We are hooked to our phones all day… Disconnect from technology at least 2 hours before going to sleep. The blue light emitted by the screens not only affects you when falling asleep but also the quality of sleep in general.
  • If you lie in bed and don’t stop moving around, we recommend you take a light walk around the house for about 10 minutes to stop overthinking. Some light exercise can also help, but intense exercise before bed is not recommended.

Another technique that can help you is meditation, also between 10-20 minutes. Seeking silence and tranquility can facilitate falling sleep. A former student recommended Petit BamBou to us on social media and we want to give it a try!

Nicole, a UIB Tourism student, recommends that we make a daily and weekly To-Do List to keep us motivated. It does not matter if the tasks are easy to accomplish, in fact it is better to start with simple tasks and gradually increase its difficulty. If we write very complex, general, or difficult tasks to complete, we will probably be discouraged and not finish them. Are you worried about unnecessary paper consumption? Use this app. Thanks so much for your advice, Nicole!
